Why Cheap Outdoor Shading in the UAE Costs More in the Long Run

3 April 2026

Awnings that Last in the UAE Climate

We regularly receive messages from customers who’ve received our quote and are looking for something cheaper. It’s a fair question – shading looks similar from the outside, and the price difference can be significant. But outdoor shading in the UAE is not a context where cutting corners works out well, and this article explains why.

The UAE environment is genuinely harsh

This isn’t a marketing line. The UAE presents one of the most demanding environments for outdoor shading products anywhere in the world. Shamal winds, winds that funnel between buildings. Sudden rain and storms. And summer temperatures that push materials, motors, and fabrics to their limits for months at a time.

Any shading solution – whether it’s an awning, pergola, shade sail, outdoor blind, or umbrella – needs to be built to withstand all of this, season after season. Products that aren’t engineered for these conditions don’t just underperform. They fail.

What we use for awnings, and why

For awnings specifically, we’ve made deliberate choices across every component of the system.

Frames, arms and structure – LLAZA (Spain) We use awning systems manufactured by LLAZA, a Spanish company with a strong track record in demanding climates. Their systems come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty and are built to tolerances that cheaper alternatives simply don’t match.

Motors – Somfy (France) Somfy is one of the largest blind and shading motor manufacturers in the world. Their motors carry a 5-year warranty and – critically for UAE customers – Somfy has a facility in Jebel Ali that handles sales and service locally. If a motor ever needs replacing or repairing, that support exists here. Motor failures are relatively rare with Somfy. With cheaper alternatives, they’re not.

Fabrics – Sauleda (Spain) We source our fabrics from Sauleda, a Spanish manufacturer supplying European-grade solution-dyed fabrics. Solution-dyed means the colour is locked into the fibre during production, not applied on top. In UAE temperatures, this is the difference between a fabric that holds its colour for years and one that fades within a season or two.

What happens with cheaper alternatives

We see this regularly. A customer buys a cheaper awning from another supplier. Within one or two seasons the fabric fades, a motor fails, or the structure shows stress. They contact us to repair it. In most cases we can’t – because the parts don’t exist in the market, the manufacturer offers no support, and the system wasn’t built to be serviced.

The result is a full replacement. The money saved on the original purchase is gone, and then some.

Products that last in the UAE

We’ve built The Shading Company’s reputation on supplying products that last in this environment. That means working only with manufacturers who back their products with warranties, hold stock locally, and have service infrastructure in place. It costs more upfront. It costs significantly less over the lifetime of the product.

If you’ve received our quote and want to understand exactly what you’re getting for the price, we’re happy to walk through it in detail. That conversation is always worth having before committing to a cheaper alternative.
