Shade Sail Installed at a Private Residence

This project called for shading over a large outdoor lounge and pool deck area, with no walls or existing structures to anchor to. A fully freestanding solution was specified: six posts supporting two large shade sails across the full length of the space.

Freestanding structures give more flexibility in positioning since the design isn’t constrained by where a wall happens to sit, but they need careful post placement and foundation work to handle the load without wall support to share it. The six-post layout here spreads that load evenly across the span, keeping the sails taut and stable.

The two sails were arranged to give continuous coverage across the seating and lounge area, cutting direct sun while keeping the space open on all sides. This kind of layout works well for larger entertaining areas where a fixed roof would feel too enclosed.
