How it works

The Eolis 3D Wirefree is a small battery-powered sensor fixed to the front profile of the awning. It measures the awning's movement, and when the shaking passes the level set at installation (1 to 9) a set number of times, it tells the Somfy io motor to close the awning. It is designed for the everyday afternoon gusts common in the UAE.

What it can't do

The sensor does not protect the awning in strong gusts, storms or rain. A sudden strong gust can damage an awning before the sensor has counted enough movement to close it, which can take up to 15 seconds. Somfy's manual states that the sensor does not protect the awning in strong gusts of wind, and that the awning must stay closed when there is a risk of this weather. Wind damage is not covered by the warranty.

Getting the most from it

1. Close the awning when strong wind, storms or rain are forecast, and when you are away.
2. Test it regularly by shaking the front profile: the awning should close.
3. Keep the batteries fresh. They last around 2 years.
4. Add a TaHoma Switch to close the awning from your phone when you are not at home.
